44th Akha New Year Festival plus National Day was held at the Myoma football ground in Kengtung, east of Shan State
A ceremony to commemorate Shan people’s New Year Day was held in the compound of Mwedaw monastery, Mongpan Township, Linkhay District, Shan State (South) yesterday afternoon. In this year, Shan New Year Day falls on 8 December, ushering in the Year 2113 in Shan calendar.
In a bid to attract more visitors to the area, Chin traditional handiworks were put on display at a house on the People’s Hospital Street in Kanpetlet Township, Chin State from 25 to 29 October by the Chin Cultural Committee.
“Except Thandaunggyi which is a hilly region, six townships in Kayin State were inundated with floodwaters. 16 temporary rescue camps have been opened in Hpa.an since 22 July and many villages near the Thanlwin River were submerged by floodwaters. Kayin State suffered worst flooding in 40 years. On behalf of the local government, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the donors for their contributions to the flood victims,” said U Khun Myo Tint, Kayin State Minister for Pa-O Ethnic Affairs.
